Previously, we had talked about a style of yoga known as “Flying Yoga“. Today we are going to talk about another style of yoga that defies gravity. This style is known Aerial Yoga. If you have read the article about Flying Yoga, you would know that it requires you to work in pairs. The good think about Aerial Yoga is that you can do it on your own without a partner. In other words, everyone will have an opportunity to learn to fly and take to the skies.

As you may have noticed from the picture, aerial yoga uses the aid of a hammock, so that one will be able to experience flight. In fact, the hammock acts as a trapeze for students. This enables them to stretch further and hold positions for a longer period of time compared to what they normally would be capable of in other types of yoga classes. This suspension in the air also assists in decompressing tight joints and relieving pressure.

The main concern that majority of students faced on their first day of class is trusting the hammock to support their weight. Although it has been said that it has the ability to hold up to 2,000 pounds, there is always that uncertainty and precaution that students will feel. The key here is letting go and trusting yourself. Most students will probably not be able to accomplish this initially. Can you imagine yourself hanging upside down with only the support of a hammock? Majority of students will have the fear of falling down and injuring themselves. This is a very common thinking, so you don’t have to feel awkward if you have the exact same feeling during the first lesson.

So how does flying gets incorporated into aerial yoga? Some of the exercises require you to swing the hammock. This would be the closest you get to flying. Of course there will be some traditional yoga poses and even meditation involved. The coolest thing is that you will be able to perform all of these in the hammock, making it a whole new and different experience. For more on the article, click here to read it.
